Getting two years back one is reminded of the KITT (used) in the series was sold for just over £30,000, while another is currently on display in Keswick, England.
This one, the most coveted one of the series KITT, the talking Pontiac Trans Am from the hit show Knight Rider, is being sold for £76,000 at a Californian car dealership. With only 2,393 original miles on the clock, this KITT was one of only four cars used for close-up interior shots in Knight Rider, which starred David Hasselloff as Michael Knight. It featured in all four series. The car, which has been on display at Kassabian Motors, Dublin, California, received ‘a great deal of interest’ and has the potential to exceed its sale price of $150,000. KITT speaks with its driver, its abilities as jump obstacles, drive silently, shield bullets and fire rockets. Its fictional performance statistics made for interesting viewing, too: the ‘turbocharged’ V8 engine theoretically enabled KITT to hit 0-60mph in two seconds and a top speed well in excess of 200mph.
However the hard features on ground reveal that most of the switches in the cockpit do not do anything, nor will the car jump ravines or talk to you. If it is any consolation, the red scanner light on the nose is real and makes the same humming noise as the car did on screen. The trouble is you will not be able to drive it around and show off to your friends, as it does not pass US emissions laws. Instead, the car is expected to go to an enthusiast or museum where it will be used for static displays.
