Volvo reveals updated C30

Volvo reveals updated C30Viewed from the front, it’s easy to spot the facelifted version of the Volvo C30. The changes here are evolutionary but extensive, influenced by the latest Volvo looks of the S60 Concept, the just-updated C70, and the recently introduced XC60 crossover 4x4.

New front wings, bonnet, lights, grille and bumper combine to give the C30 a sleeker, sportier look. At the rear the changes are less obvious, with a new colour-coded valance being the biggest change. This is painted to match the rest of the bodywork, or in a contrasting colour for what Volvo calls a ‘dramatic twist’.

Volvo C30 Contrast
A new C30 Contrast Colour Collection specification adds more contrast, with lower exterior trim pieces available in a choice of complimentary colours. There’s also a new accessory kit to further enhance the C30’s sportier looks, plus a choice of two new alloy wheel designs. The most powerful T5 petrol and D5 diesel models gain twin visible tailpipes.

On the inside, the updated C30 gains a new interior trim option. Called Espresso/Blond, this is intended to reflect Scandinavian design and can be combined with a choice of coloured accents. Alternatively, you can also specify a new 'Cranberry' leather upholstery finish.

C30 Sport chassis
Finally, the new Sport chassis promises to bring hot hatch handling to the C30 range for the first time. Available on every version except the 1.6d DRIVe with start-stop, the Sport chassis is 10mm lower, with revised steering, stiffer suspension and a greater resistance to cornering lean.

The new Volvo C30 retains an extensive line up of engines - from eco-friendly DRIVe diesel models through to the 227bhp petrol turbo T5. It goes on sale early in 2010, but pricing and full specification details are yet to be revealed.
