Buoyed by the overwhelming response of its newly-launched 'Corolla Altis' and to fulfill its customer's needs in every possible way, Toyota Kirloskar Motors (TKM), is planning to roll out its diesel version in the Indian car market. It has been learnt from knowledgeable sources that TKM is considering to power the model with a 1. 4L turbo-diesel engine that is currently strapped on to the Yaris hatchback (in other countries), though it could not be officially confirmed by the company.

The car manufacturer senses that diesel luxury saloons are gaining popularity in the Indian car market as such cars offer improved power, performance, and fuel-efficiency. Market sources claim that the diesel version of 'Corolla Altis' would be available in the Indian showrooms by mid-2009. Toyota sold on 40,000 units of Corolla in five years but now plans to sell 20,000 units of Corolla Altis per year.

According to one of sources who requested anonymity, Toyota's engineers are currently working on various modifications to offer the European Corolla's design to the Indian Altis.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor Limited has recently stated that the 'Corolla Altis' has posted record sales since its launch on September 5, 2008, was seen by over 70,000 people. More than 20, 000 people countrywide have enquired about the car and till date there are more than 2,500 customers who have become a part of the Corolla Altis family.

The Altis has established Corolla's No.1 status in the premium sedan segment. Toyota has always set a benchmark in this segment with innovative luxury, comfort and performance, earning recognition from customers and critics alike over the years. With the Altis, Toyota has raised the bar for the entire segment.
