"We will get it in the fall of 2010, but I don't know if it will be called ASX," said Moe Durand, Mitsubishi Motors North America spokesman, on Wednesday morning in a telephone conversation with Inside Line. "It will slot in below the [Mitsubishi] Outlander, but we have no idea about pricing at this point."
The base 2009 Mitsubishi Outlander ES starts at $21,345, including a $765 destination charge. Although Durand was unable to confirm the U.S. version's name, IL sources say the new compact crossover will be called the Outlander Sport in the States.
Mitsubishi on Tuesday said the ASX will be "sequentially introduced in European countries from late spring 2010." It is smaller than the Mitsubishi Outlander and seats five passengers. The Mitsubishi ASX gets the new 1.8-liter turbocharged diesel engine linked to a six-speed manual transmission. It will feature the fuel-saving "Automatic Stop & Go" technology.
